Walls and fences in a garden are introduced for a variety of reasons. They could offer privacy from neighbouring properties or public areas, identify your boundary lines or as a retainer to support the soil where there are changes in the levels.

When choosing a wall or fence design, purpose and budget should be considered. A front garden wall provides a clear distinction between the pavement and your land. When looking to separate and gain privacy between yours and your neighbours back garden, a fence would be more cost effective. Walls are a bigger investment but longer lasting, while fences are cheaper to install and offer a large range of designs.
